A winter’s blessing

Drew us through the window

            Past the black crossbars

Into the muted light

            Of a shared reality.

            My friend and I sat close

Gazing at the dormant trees

            Bare bushes

Held by January’s cold hands.

            And we both knew

Our silence would soon stop

            And the call would come

To lift our crosses and follow you

            Loving us forward
