Write me a poem
Let it take me away
On a ship I have never been.
To a time before the beginning
To time long after time ends.
Only a poem can create such a ship
With sails like mighty wings
Only a poem can reach past the stars
Up and over whatever life brings . . .
Write me a poem
Make it whisper with hope
Let it steal through my window
Take my hand to elope.
East to the morning
Out of darkness please take
Lead me to my water
Once again to my lake . . .
Where waves are my playmates
Gulls tempt me to fly
Warm sand secures me
My hearts sings and cries . . .
Write me a poem
Let me fill in the blanks
Let the words grant my wishes
To the Word I’ll give thanks.
For poems without God
Can be beautiful things
But when God is the poet
Eternity rings.
And pain for a moment
Disappears with each line
As heaven draws near
Eye to eye the divine.
Write me a poem
To be read and reread
My heart now content
My soul has been fed.
