How long

Could Adam and Eve 

Live in someone else’s garden?

            After all —

They did not plant it;

It did not need them.

It was perpetually

            Obedient to its Creator —

With nothing to claim,

Not even clothes,

No power for personal gain —

            It seems they just

Could not bear

All that Beauty

And loving Bliss —

             It seems they just

Could not resist

The serpent’s lure

To Power over Peace;

            The human need

To call one thing a Flower

And one thing a Weed.
